Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We're here to help! Here are some common questions that we get asked and our answers:
1. General Questions
What makes HONBLUE wallpaper different?
We specialize in made-to-order wallpapers and murals printed to fit your exact wall dimensions. We partner with talented designers to offer Hawaii-inspired patterns and murals you won’t find elsewhere, and we use high-quality materials that are easy to install for a stunning result.
We also print all wallpaper and murals right here locally in Hawaii, ensuring that we have some of the fastest production turnaround times of any provider (usually in 1-3 days). That also means we're on hand when you need support, reprints, or have questions.
2. Products and Materials
Do you offer peel-and-stick wallpaper or just traditional wallpaper?
We offer both! Our peel-and-stick wallpaper has a self-adhesive backing – just peel off the liner and stick it to the wall. It’s great for easy removal or if you’re renting, since it comes off cleanly without residue. We also have traditional paste-the-wall wallpaper, which uses normal wallpaper paste. The paste-the-wall material is non-woven, so you apply adhesive to the wall and then hang the panels – no need to soak the paper. Both types have the same high print quality, so it really depends on your needs (peel-and-stick for convenience, or paste-the-wall for a more permanent install).
How durable are the wallpapers? Will the colors fade over time?
Our wallpapers are made for long-term enjoyment. The prints are UV-resistant, so they won’t noticeably fade even if used in a sunny room. The material has excellent scratch resistance and can handle the bumps of everyday life. You can also wipe it with a damp cloth to clean off dust or minor smudges without damaging the print. In short, your wallpaper will stay vibrant and intact for years to come under normal indoor conditions.
3. Measuring and Samples
How do I measure my wall for a wallpaper or mural?
Measure the width of the wall at the widest part, and the height at the tallest part. It’s best to use a tape measure and measure in at least two places horizontally and vertically, in case your wall or ceiling is slightly uneven. If you have an angled or sloped ceiling, measure up to the highest point of the wall. We do suggest adding on 2.5-4 inches to the measured width height as buffer.
For width: Our extra wide panels are 48" wide for easier install and we provide a calculator to help you figure out how many panels you need.
For height: We can custom print lengths so we minimize wasted material and you don't have to overbuy excess wallpaper.

Why do I need to add a few extra inches to my measurements?
We recommend adding about 2.5–4 inches (6–10 cm) to your wall width and height when ordering. This small margin of error ensures the wallpaper will fully cover your wall even if there are minor irregularities or if it’s not perfectly level. It acts as a safety buffer so you’re not left with a gap. You’ll trim off the small excess after installation, resulting in a perfect edge.
Can I get a sample before committing to a full order?
Absolutely! We encourage ordering a sample if you want to see the colors and material in person. You can request a sample of any design on our website. We’ll send you a small wallpaper sheet printed with that design. The sample is printed on the same material and with the same inks as the full wallpaper, so you can check the quality, texture, and color accuracy before you buy the whole thing. (The sample will show a scaled-down section of the design or the full pattern repeat.)
4. Customization and Design
Can I customize the color or scale of a wallpaper design?
Yes, we offer customization on many of our designs. If you see a pattern or mural you like but want some changes – for example, a different background color, or a larger/smaller scale of the pattern – just let us know your ideas. Our design team can often adjust the artwork to fit your vision. We’ll provide a preview or description of the changes, and once you approve, we’ll print your custom version at no extra charge (in some cases a small design fee may apply, which we’d quote upfront)
Can I use my own photo or artwork to create a custom wallpaper?
Absolutely! It's easy. The main requirement is that the image is high-resolution so that it will look crisp at the size of your wall. You can upload your image on our site (or email it to us), and our system/team will check the resolution and dimensions. If everything looks good, we’ll print it to your wall size. If we have any concerns (for example, if the image might look pixelated at a large size), we’ll reach out to discuss options. Using your own image is a great way to get a one-of-a-kind result.
5. Ordering & Payment
Can I change or cancel my order after I’ve placed it?
If you need to make a change or cancel, please contact us as soon as possible. We do our best to accommodate adjustments but because we print quickly on demand, that isn't always possible.
What payment methods do you accept, and is my payment secure?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and more.
Rest assured, our checkout is secure – we use encrypted payment processing and HTTPS, which means your personal and payment information is protected at all stages. You’ll see the padlock symbol in your browser at checkout indicating the security. We do not store your card details; all transactions are handled safely by the payment processor.
What is your return policy?
Since each wallpaper is custom-printed, we can’t accept returns and make refunds once it’s been produced.
However, if you have an issue or aren't satisfied, please still reach out and we'll see what we can do.
6. Shipping & Delivery
How long will it take to receive my wallpaper?
Our wallpapers are printed on demand here in Hawaii so we have some of the fastest times for production. In general, we print and dispatch orders within 3 business days, and shipping transit time adds another few days (often sooner if you're in Hawaii). You’ll get a tracking number via email as soon as your package ships, so you can follow its journey.
What if my wallpaper arrives damaged or has a defect?
If something went wrong with the production of the order pre-installation (for example, it was damaged in transit or there’s a printing flaw), please contact us right away. Please also provide a photo, a name, and an order number so we can track it down quickly.
We will fix the issue at no cost to you – typically by rushing a replacement print or provide a full refund.
Please note we cannot be liable for install-related issues.
7. Installation & Wallpaper Care
Is it easy to install the wallpaper by myself?
Yes – our products are DIY-friendly, even if you’ve never hung wallpaper before. We include a step-by-step installation guide with every order.
Our paste-the-wall wallpapers mean you apply adhesive to the wall and then hang the dry panels, which is simpler than traditional methods. Each panel is numbered in order, so it’s straightforward.
And if you opted for peel-and-stick wallpaper, installation is even easier: just peel off the backing and stick it on. Many of our customers install their wallpaper in an afternoon. Of course, if you prefer professional help, you can hire an installer, but it’s not required.
What surfaces are suitable for applying wallpaper on?
Our wallpapers and murals stick well to a variety of wall types, including painted walls and smooth drywall. However, we generally recommend avoiding textured or highly porous surfaces.
How do I remove the wallpaper later on?
Removing our wallpaper is hassle-free. For pasted wallpapers (non-woven material), you can peel them off without needing a steamer. The trick is to slightly dampen the wallpaper with water first – this softens the paste. Then you can peel each strip away from the wall, usually in large pieces. Any residual paste can be wiped off the wall with a wet cloth.
For peel-and-stick wallpapers, removal is as simple as slowly peeling the panel off the wall — it should come away cleanly with no residue or damage. Either way, our wallpapers are designed to be strippable, meaning they come down without fuss when it’s time for a change
How do I clean the wallpaper if it gets dirty?
Our wallpapers have a washable surface. To clean them, just use a soft cloth or sponge dampened with water and gently wipe the area. You can add a tiny bit of mild soap if needed to remove tougher smudges, but avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbing. For example, a little dish soap on a damp sponge can remove a food splatter – just wipe gently and then pat dry. Regular dust can be removed with a dry duster or vacuum brush. With these simple steps, it’s easy to keep your wallpaper looking fresh and vibrant.
8. Trade & Design Partners
Do you offer a trade program or discounts for interior designers and other professionals?
Yes, we love working with design professionals! We have a trade program for interior designers, architects, contractors, and other professionals. Approved trade partners receive benefits like a special trade discount on our products, access to samples, and a dedicated account manager. It’s our way of building relationships with the design community. To join, you just need to apply (see next question), and once you’re in, you can use your trade credentials to get discounts on all orders for your clients’ projects
How can I apply for a trade account?
You can apply on our website via the Trade Program page. We’ll ask for some basic information about your business (like a resale license or business card to verify you’re a trade professional). The application is quick. Once submitted, our team usually reviews and approves trade applications within 1-2 business days. After approval, you’ll receive an email confirmation with more details.
